volunteer-led library
Houston is proud to have an active library that is staffed by community volunteers. Thanks to parent volunteers, the library is now frequented by all grade levels. Not only is the space used for reading, but also tutoring, school-based events, and community events.

The HSA is actively involved in recruiting volunteers for staffing the library and tutoring, as well as maintaining the space and the books. Each year, in partnership with Germantown-based, independent, Black-owned bookstore Uncle Bobbies, the HSA holds a virtual book fair, and we welcome donations to the library during this time and throughout the year.

Thanks to a Benjamin Moore contest in 2022, the library was reinvigorated and rejuvenated with a fresh coat of paint and with money from the Trolley Car Teacher's Fund we were recently able to add a cozy nook with rugs and beans bags.
